Services-conseils aux architectes et professionnels en patrimoine

Playing an integral role in reinforcing masonry, assembling carpentry pieces, nailing shingles on roofs or decorating facades and interiors, metal parts and forged iron are essential components in traditional construction work. The way materials vary in their composition, original treatment, location or choice of maintenance all relies on a vast knowledge and understanding of reactions and interactions on a molecular level. To ensure optimum conservation and treatment that respects the material, Mathieu Collette provides architects and heritage professionals his experience in conservation and restoration of old metal and iron works.

  • Work diagnostics;
  • Define technical details for plans and specifications;
  • Assistance in chosing an approach according to technical constraits and the principles of restoration-conservation.

Combining 24 years of experience in forging, ironwork and metalwork, Mathieu has contributed to several restoration interventions in order to restore heritage sites (Notre-Dame de Montréal basilica, Château Ramezay, Côte-des-Neiges pumping station, Séminaire de Saint-Sulpice, etc). Today, he dedicates his life to preserving heritage and teaching by collaborating with most notably the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec to offer training to professional artisans and conservation architects. Working solely as a consultant, he is an expert and impartial speaker in restauration projects.
