21 April à 9:00 am - 22 April à 5:00 pm$600
This class will be taught in French
If you have no prior blacksmithing experience, this is the first class you need to take.
Prerequisite: There is no prerequisite for this class
Our introductory blacksmithing is a good place to start. If you’ve never done anything else and want to try, this is the first class you need to take a closer look at.
The class will begin with an overview of the workshop, the tools used and the procedures to use them safely.
The basic techniques of forging are taught while creating fun to learn and functional projects that students take home. Students will learn the fundamentals of blacksmithing which include, drawing material, forging a point, twisting, drifting, hot cutting, forge welding, heat treatment and more.
Once you’ve had the chance to warm up at the fire, you’ll make a series of tools needed to complete the final class project. From nail, to cutting tool to decorative wall hook; students will learn blacksmithing as they create.
This is definitely a hands-on class and can be physically demanding to the uninitiated; therefore, you should come prepared and capable of the work required.
Taking this class will also provide graduates with the opportunity of acquiring membership to the Montreal Forges and all the benefits that come with.
You will be expected with all the tools and safety equipment required to attend the class. Please wear steel-toe footwear and cotton clothing. Do not wear synthetic materials as they tend to melt to the skin when blacksmithing.
Bring your lunch to class as there are not many restaurant options near the shop and we try to keep lunch breaks to one hour or less to ensure time is maximized at the forge. Also bring a water bottle that can refilled at the shop as necessary because you will definitely need to drink lots of water.
Classes are from 9am – 5pm everyday.
Students will also be required to sign our waiver before class begins.
